  • Liquidity Arena 2026, run by prime broker LTP with AWS and Calais as co-organizers, opened its dual-track finals on September 9.
  • Track A scores AI agents on reasoning quality; Track B scores hedge funds and prop trading firms on execution and returns.
  • The preliminary round produced more than 70,000 trades from teams that were narrowed down to 30 finalists; the prize pool tops $300,000.

A trading competition that started in July reached its final stage this week, and the format is the interesting part: AI developers and autonomous trading systems are now competing directly alongside hedge funds and high-frequency trading desks, on the same event, judged by two different standards.

Liquidity Arena 2026’s Track A, called Logic Frontier, is built for AI research labs, universities, and developers, and it grades entrants on how well their systems reason through changing market conditions, not just whether they made money. Track B, Liquidity Pro, launched its main phase on September 9 for hedge funds and proprietary trading firms and judges purely on strategy performance and execution efficiency.

The preliminary phase, which ran from July 20 to August 21, generated more than 70,000 trades before thirty teams advanced. That volume is itself a signal of how far autonomous trading systems have moved from backtested demos toward live, adjudicated competition against professional capital. Track B’s registration stays open through September 23, meaning the field competing against the AI-native teams is still being finalized.

What makes this worth watching isn’t the $300,000 prize pool, which is modest by trading-industry standards. It’s that a competition organizer felt confident enough in AI trading systems to put them in the same bracket as professional quant desks and score reasoning quality as a distinct, first-class metric alongside profit, rather than treating an AI agent’s output as a black box to be judged on returns alone.
