  • Strategy bought 950 BTC for about $76 million, at an average price near $79,670 per coin
  • Total holdings now stand at 846,000 bitcoin
  • The company also repurchased $174 million of its STRC preferred shares
  • The purchase ends a pause of roughly two weeks with no new bitcoin bought

Strategy, the business intelligence company that has spent the past several years converting its balance sheet into a bitcoin holding vehicle, bought 950 more BTC this week for about $76 million, at an average price near $79,670 per coin. The purchase lifts the company’s total holdings to 846,000 bitcoin, the largest corporate bitcoin position of any publicly traded company.

The buy ends a pause of roughly two weeks in which the company made no new bitcoin purchases, a gap notable mainly because Strategy has bought bitcoin on a close to weekly cadence for most of the past two years. The company did not publicly explain the pause, and a two-week gap on its own is not unusual given that Strategy’s purchases depend on raising fresh capital through stock or debt offerings rather than spending existing cash reserves.

Alongside the bitcoin purchase, Strategy also repurchased $174 million of its STRC preferred shares, a class of stock the company issued specifically to help fund its bitcoin buying. Repurchasing that stock back is a separate capital-management move from buying bitcoin itself, and signals the company had capital available it chose to deploy on shoring up its own share structure rather than putting all of it toward additional coins this particular week.

Strategy’s holdings and purchase history are disclosed through its own investor communications and regulatory filings with the SEC, which is how the market tracks the running total independent of any single report repeating the company’s own figures. At 846,000 BTC, Strategy’s position is large enough that its buying and selling activity is itself treated as a data point by traders watching corporate demand for bitcoin, alongside the exchange-traded fund flows that make up the other major channel of institutional buying.

The purchase comes in a week where bitcoin’s own price has been climbing, which raises the average cost basis question that has followed Strategy’s strategy since it began: the approach depends on bitcoin’s long-run appreciation outpacing the cost of the capital raised to buy it, a bet that has broadly worked out for the company since it started but that remains untested at this scale over a full multi-year down cycle.
