  • Chainlink launched CCIP 2.0, an upgraded version of its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, on September 28, 2026
  • The upgrade lets institutions run their own independently operated Cross-Chain Verifiers on cloud platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud, adding a user-controlled verification layer on top of Chainlink’s existing security
  • More than 18 partners are backing the launch, including ANZ Bank, Fidelity International, and Amazon Web Services, alongside built-in KYC, AML, and sanctions screening for every transaction

Chainlink announced the launch of CCIP 2.0, an upgraded version of its Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, in a release distributed on PR Newswire on September 28, 2026. The upgrade is designed to let institutions move tokenized assets across multiple blockchains through a single integration, with new security and compliance features aimed specifically at institutional users.

The centerpiece of the upgrade lets institutions operate their own independent Cross-Chain Verifiers on cloud platforms of their choosing, such as AWS or Google Cloud, adding a self-controlled verification step on top of Chainlink’s existing network security. Third-party enterprise providers including Infosys and Nethermind can also supply additional, additive verification layers for institutions that prefer an outside provider over running their own.

CCIP 2.0 also builds in automated KYC, anti-money-laundering, and sanctions screening for every transaction that moves across the protocol, along with configurable settlement speed that lets institutions choose between near-instant transfers and fully finalized transfers requiring custom approvals, depending on their internal risk requirements.

“Institutions need a neutral standard for moving digital assets across chains,” Chainlink Labs’ chief business officer said in the release, framing the upgrade as a response to a fragmented blockchain landscape where legacy bridging solutions have a poor security track record and proprietary alternatives risk locking institutions into a single provider.

More than 18 partners are backing the CCIP 2.0 launch, according to the release, including ANZ Bank, Fidelity International, Amazon Web Services, and several major decentralized finance protocols. The breadth of that partner list, spanning traditional banks, asset managers, and cloud infrastructure providers alongside crypto-native protocols, reflects Chainlink’s positioning of CCIP as infrastructure meant to serve both traditional finance and decentralized finance simultaneously.

Cross-chain bridging has historically been one of the more frequently exploited categories of blockchain infrastructure, since a bridge typically has to hold or mint substantial value on behalf of users moving assets between networks, making the additional independent verification layers introduced in this upgrade a direct response to the security expectations institutions now bring to any cross-chain integration they are willing to rely on for real asset transfers.
