- KB Securities, Securitize, and Optimism signed an MOU to introduce tokenized financial products to Korean institutional investors on OP Mainnet
- It is KB Securities’ first public tokenization initiative and the second institutional issuer brought on through the OP Mainnet-Securitize partnership
- The collaboration launches with a tokenized money market fund and a fund based on KB Asset Management’s flagship strategy, with tokenized stocks, ADRs, and bonds possible in later phases
KB Securities, tokenization platform Securitize, and the Optimism Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding to bring tokenized financial products to Korean institutional investors on OP Mainnet, according to Optimism’s announcement. The agreement marks KB Securities’ first public tokenization initiative and the second institutional issuer brought onto OP Mainnet through its partnership with Securitize.
The collaboration will launch with two products: a tokenized money market fund and a fund built on KB Asset Management’s flagship investment strategy. Under the agreement, KB Securities will issue and distribute the products to Korean institutional clients, Securitize will provide the tokenization platform and fund administration, and Optimism will supply the underlying technical infrastructure through the OP Stack along with integration support.
The three parties said future phases of the partnership could extend to tokenized stocks, American depositary receipts, corporate bonds, and Korean government bonds as local regulatory frameworks for tokenized securities continue to develop. No firm timeline was given for when those additional product categories might launch.
“This agreement is meaningful in that it leverages the specialized capabilities of each company to lay the groundwork” for tokenized securities in Korea, said KB Securities chief executive Kang Jin-doo. Securitize chief executive Carlos Domingo said Korea “is one of the world’s most sophisticated capital markets,” and that the partnership brings “proven global tokenization infrastructure” into the country.
The deal signals that major Korean financial institutions are now willing to formally evaluate tokenization, an area where institutional activity has so far concentrated mostly in US dollar-denominated markets led by American and European asset managers. KB Securities becomes one of the first large Korean brokerages to publicly commit to a tokenized product roadmap on a specific blockchain network.
The KB Securities agreement follows a separate MOU Optimism signed with DB Securities to build tokenized securities and real-world-asset infrastructure for South Korea’s Jeju free economic zone on the OP Stack, giving Optimism two distinct footholds with Korean securities firms within the same year. Securitize, for its part, is now working with multiple Korean institutional partners as it extends the same tokenization and fund-administration infrastructure it built for US asset managers into a new regulatory market.
