Step App shuts down all services by Aug. 21, 2026, after four years of operation. In its announcement, the team said the platform surpassed 1 million downloads and tracked “billions” of steps, and told users to unstake locked tokens and manage exchange-held positions before services end.
Dear Steppers,
There’s no easy way to say this — after four years of work, Step App is shutting down. We’ve been sitting with this decision for a while, and it’s time to be straight with you.
We are incredibly proud of what Step App achieved — not just as a product, but as a… pic.twitter.com/pswBrywfyS

Three ways to measure Step App’s scale
The team’s own count is 1 million-plus downloads. A separate estimate puts the platform’s actual user base at around 300,000, citing the same 140 billion steps tracked that the team cites. FITFI, the platform’s governance and staking token, is currently held by roughly 63,850 wallet addresses on-chain. Each number is a different kind of count, downloads, estimated users, on-chain holders, and each one is smaller than the last.
What the platform included
Built on Avalanche, Step App combined step-tracking with a gamified token economy. FITFI handled governance and staking; KCAL ran the in-app wellness marketplace. NFT sneakers called SNEAKs affected gameplay and rewards, alongside a crypto wallet, a decentralized exchange, a launchpad, and a token bridge bundled into one application.
Exchanges had already been stepping away
FITFI’s exchange access eroded well before this week’s announcement. BitMart delisted the token in 2025, Bybit followed in the 2025-to-2026 window, and Bithumb’s own notice, published July 16, 2026, confirmed it would end trading support for FITFI along with four other tokens. CoinSavi has a separate FITFI delisting scheduled for Aug. 31, ten days after Step App’s own services end. Because none of these dates line up, users face different deadlines depending on where they hold their tokens, some trading and withdrawal windows close before the app does, others stay open after.
What FITFI’s price shows
FITFI’s IDO priced the token at $0.0049 on April 21, 2022. It hit an all-time high between $0.7266 and $0.7319, depending on May 5, 2022, a gain of roughly 148x to 150x from IDO to peak. As of 12:03 UTC on Aug. 6, 2026, FITFI traded at $0.00001378, down 12.31% over the prior 24 hours and down effectively 100% from that 2022 high. Market cap stood at $63.39K on $27.12K of 24-hour volume, against a circulating supply of 4.6 billion tokens, already 98.7% of max supply.

What to do before Aug. 21
Users holding FITFI or KCAL should check the specific withdrawal deadlines set by whichever exchange or wallet holds their tokens, not just Step App’s Aug. 21 date, since asset transfers may remain available on some platforms after the application itself stops operating.
The Step App closure comes as the crypto industry continues to see multiple project closures in 2026. Recent events, including the Step Finance shutdown, highlight how different blockchain platforms have faced operational challenges, although the reasons behind each shutdown differ.
