Trump Media & Technology Group added 4,661.84 bitcoin to its treasury in July, according to the subsequent-events disclosure in its second-quarter earnings report, pushing total holdings to 14,139 bitcoin worth $890.52 million. The purchase came weeks after the company reported a $238.1 million net loss for the quarter ended June 30.

Trump Media Bitcoin Treasury Timeline

  • Quarter ended June 30: Trump Media holds 9,477.16 bitcoin; digital-asset losses reach $306.69 million for the first half of the year.
  • August 1: Truth API launches commercially.
  • August 2: Trump Media-linked wallets move 2,628 bitcoin (about $165 million) to Crypto.com; company says it was a custody transfer, not a sale.
  • August 7: Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition terminate the CRO Strategy joint venture.
  • August 10: Trump Media reports Q2 results ($238.1 million net loss, $1.7 million revenue) and discloses, in its subsequent-events note, that its bitcoin holdings reached 14,139 coins in July, up 4,661.84 coins from quarter-end.

Bitcoin Treasury Expanded Despite Quarterly Loss

The core business barely moved the needle on that loss. Revenue was $1.7 million for the quarter, up 89% from $0.9 million a year earlier, helped by Truth API, a new data-licensing product launched commercially on August 1 with more than ten customer agreements signed.

Against a $238.1 million loss, that revenue growth is real but small: Truth Social and its related products generated revenue in the low millions, far less than the $190.4 million in unrealized losses on digital assets, digital assets pledged, and equity securities recorded during the quarter.

McGurn said the “vast bulk” of the loss came from unrealized losses on digital assets, which totaled $306.69 million across the first half of the year as bitcoin’s price fell roughly 13%, from about $67,800 on March 31 to about $58,800 on June 30.

That split, a media company whose actual media business produces low-single-digit-million revenue while its balance sheet swings by hundreds of millions on bitcoin’s price, is now the plainest way to describe what Trump Media has become. At June 30, bitcoin and related digital assets made up the majority of the company’s roughly $2 billion in total assets.

The July purchase widened that gap further rather than narrowing it: even after a quarter defined by a nine-figure crypto loss, management chose to add another $333 million of bitcoin exposure rather than build up the businesses that don’t depend on its price.

Trump Media Pulls Back From Other Crypto Ventures

That decision came at the same time Trump Media pulled back from a different kind of crypto bet. On August 2, wallets tied to the company moved 2,628 bitcoin, worth about $165 million, to the exchange Crypto.com; the company said the coins were transferred for custody, not sold.

Five days later, Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition mutually terminated a planned joint venture, the “Trump Media Group CRO Strategy” business, along with a plan to integrate prediction markets directly into Truth Social.

The companies cited “prevailing market conditions and shifting business and stakeholder priorities.” McGurn, in the filing announcing the termination, put it more plainly: “We wanted to get focused,” citing saturation among digital-asset treasury companies.

Trump Media is not alone in treating a large quarterly loss as beside the point. Strategy, the company that built the corporate bitcoin-treasury model years earlier, posted an $8.2 billion loss for the same quarter as bitcoin fell below its average purchase price, with founder Michael Saylor telling investors the drop changed nothing about the plan.
