Trump Media Sends Another 2,628 Bitcoin to Crypto.com, Its Third Such Move in Nine Months

The company hasn't said whether this is a sale or a custody move, and its own cash-flow numbers make the usual explanation harder to apply.

Trump Media transferred 2,628 BTC (about $165 million at current prices) to Crypto.com today, the company’s third such move to the exchange in nine months, following transfers in December 2025 and May 2026.

Why it matters: this is the third time, and no one’s said why

In May, Trump Media told CoinDesk it had “transferred, but did not sell” Bitcoin, calling it part of a broader trading strategy. The company hasn’t commented on today’s transfer yet. Whether this is a sale, an internal custody shuffle like December’s move, or something else remains unconfirmed.

That’s a genuine open question, and TMTG’s own numbers make it a harder one than usual. Across the broader Bitcoin-treasury sector this year, forced selling has typically come from companies running out of cash or facing debt and preferred-share obligations that outrank their coins, according to analysts including VanEck’s Matthew Sigel. Trump Media doesn’t fit that profile on paper: it posted its fourth consecutive quarter of positive operating cash flow in Q1 2026 and holds more cash than debt. That makes a distress-driven sale less obvious an explanation here than it’s been for smaller treasury companies like Nakamoto Holdings or MARA, and leaves the “why” more open, not less.

By the numbers: a shrinking treasury

Date BTC moved Value at the time BTC price Company’s characterization
December 2025 2,000 BTC ~$174–175M ~$87,378 Reserve reshuffle, per Arkham
May 22, 2026 2,650 BTC ~$205M ~$77,341 “Transferred, but did not sell,” per TMTG
Today 2,628 BTC ~$165M ~low-$60,000s Unconfirmed — no statement yet

Trump Media’s Q3 2025 10-Q disclosed 11,542.16 BTC at a $1.368 billion cost basis, an average of roughly $118,522 a coin. If today’s transfer holds as a disposal, the treasury would sit near 4,261 BTC, a 63% reduction from where it started. Realized losses this year are estimated at roughly $555 million, though that figure hasn’t been independently corroborated and should be treated as unconfirmed until Trump Media’s next filing.

What’s next: a Q2 filing that should settle the sale-or-shuffle question

December’s transfer looked ambiguous in the moment and was later clarified as mostly a custody move. Trump Media’s next quarterly filing should do the same for today’s transfer, and for how much of the original 11,542 BTC actually remains.

This comes days after Trump Media launched Truth API, its paid early-access data feed for Wall Street traders, despite objections from three lawmakers and a still-silent SEC.
