U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $517.19 million in net new money on Aug. 19, the largest single-day haul since May 4, according to SoSoValue’s fund-flow data. The category’s total net assets stood at $84.31 billion afterward, equal to 6.08% of Bitcoin’s entire market capitalization.

The size of the swing is what stands out. Over the five trading days from Aug. 10 through Aug. 14, the group had shed a net $389.7 million, with four of those five sessions in the red, Aug. 10 (-$144.67 million), Aug. 12 (-$61.16 million), Aug. 13 (-$131.13 million) and Aug. 14 (-$57.63 million), offset only by a marginal $4.89 million inflow on Aug. 11. The comparison table below sets the two periods side by side. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded their worst month since launch, with $4.06 billion in net outflows in June.

Bitcoin ETF Flows: Outflow Period vs. Aug. 19 Reversal

Metric Aug. 10–14, 2026 Aug. 19, 2026
Net flow -$389.7 million +$517.19 million
Days positive / negative 1 of 5 –
Largest single-day move -$144.67 million (Aug. 10) +$517.19 million
BlackRock IBIT contribution Not disclosed +$284.7 million (~55% of total)

The rebound didn’t start on Aug. 19 itself. Inflows had already turned positive two sessions earlier, with $297.56 million on Aug. 17 and $189.30 million on Aug. 18, before the much larger Aug. 19 print. That timing lines up with two policy developments the same week: the SEC on Aug. 18 proposed a new Regulation Crypto Assets framework, letting crypto issuers raise up to $5 million over four years or up to $75 million per year without full securities registration.

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins said the proposal is meant to “provide crypto asset entrepreneurs and market participants with clear pathways to raise capital under the federal securities laws.” The following day, the Treasury Department doubled its buyback operations for 10-, 20- and 30-year debt, a liquidity move aimed at longer-dated securities.

The inflow was also concentrated rather than broad-based. IBIT’s $284.7 million made up roughly 55% of the day’s total, according to fund-flow data, with Ark and 21Shares’ ARKB adding $77.7 million and Fidelity’s FBTC adding $62.4 million. Eight of the category’s 12 funds posted inflows, but more than half the money moved through a single issuer.

U.S. Bitcoin ETFs have already reversed direction three times so far this year: a record 13-day, roughly $4.4 billion outflow streak that ended June 5, a separate 10-day outflow streak that ended July 3, and a five-day inflow run from Aug. 3 to Aug. 7 that gave way to the Aug. 10–14 outflows this piece opens with.
