The statement was published by the exchange through an official notice and later reiterated by Bitget executives on social media, aiming to address confusion surrounding the platform’s standing within Singapore’s regulatory framework. According to Bitget, the exchange is not subject to supervision by MAS and does not hold authorization to provide regulated digital asset services under the Singapore regulator.

The clarification comes as Singapore continues to tighten oversight of cryptocurrency businesses operating in or from the country. Over the past year, MAS has intensified its focus on digital asset service providers, particularly firms that may be perceived as offering regulated services without holding the required licenses.

Singapore Access Remains Restricted

Bitget also noted that its platform remains unavailable to users in Singapore, reinforcing its existing restrictions on local access. The exchange’s announcement appears designed to eliminate any misunderstanding that Bitget operates under Singapore’s regulatory approval. The move follows increased industry attention on MAS compliance requirements and the regulator’s efforts to distinguish licensed entities from unregulated platforms.

Bitget CEO Gracy Chen additionally emphasized the company’s position through a public statement, reiterating that the platform is not regulated by MAS and that Singapore users cannot access Bitget’s services.

Growing Regulatory Scrutiny in Singapore

Singapore has emerged as one of Asia’s most closely watched crypto hubs, with MAS adopting a stricter approach toward digital asset businesses in recent years.

In 2025, the regulator issued guidance affecting crypto firms serving overseas clients from Singapore, prompting several exchanges without local licenses to reassess their operations and compliance structures. Reports at the time suggested that major platforms including Bitget were evaluating organizational changes in response to the evolving regulatory landscape.

The latest clarification from Bitget reflects a broader trend across the crypto sector, where exchanges are increasingly publishing explicit disclosures regarding their licensing status in different jurisdictions.

Industry Context

The development arrives amid growing discussion around how MAS communicates regulatory status to investors. Earlier this year, crypto derivatives platform Hyperliquid responded after being added to Singapore’s Investor Alert List, stressing that such a listing should not be interpreted as a ban but rather as a notice that the platform is not regulated by MAS. This distinction has become increasingly important as investors evaluate the compliance status of global crypto platforms.

Singapore’s crypto sector has also witnessed continued consolidation and institutional activity. Most recently, Japanese financial giant SBI completed a majority acquisition of Singapore-based crypto exchange Coinhako, highlighting ongoing strategic interest in regulated digital asset businesses operating in the region.

Meanwhile, exchanges are simultaneously expanding beyond traditional crypto offerings. Bitget recently introduced US stock options trading through its Universal Exchange initiative, signaling a broader push toward integrating traditional finance products with digital asset trading services.

What It Means for Users

For users and investors, Bitget’s latest notice serves as a reminder that the exchange does not hold regulatory authorization from Singapore’s financial regulator. While the platform continues to operate globally in multiple markets, Singapore residents remain unable to access its services under the exchange’s current restrictions.

The clarification also underscores a key principle increasingly emphasized by regulators worldwide: users should verify whether a crypto platform is licensed or regulated in their jurisdiction before engaging with its services.
