Pump.fun laid off employees in early April 2026, two months before a quarter of their PUMP token grants were due to vest, according to a termination email, a meeting recording, and a grant agreement described in Sandmark’s reporting. Separately, on-chain data shows the company’s own team and investors received a large PUMP unlock in mid-July, three days later than the scheduled date, and for less than the full scheduled amount. Nothing in the confirmed record establishes a link between the two; Baton Corporation’s overdue UK accounts, due since 30 June, remain the one document that could still clarify how many employees were actually affected.

One Employee, One Missed Vesting Date

In late March, Pump.fun’s head of talent called a group of employees into a meeting. Co-founder Noah Tweedale told them, in an audio and video recording later obtained by Sandmark, that the company had “grown too quickly” to keep operating at the scrappy pace it had before. Terminations followed in early April, with severance set at one week of salary per month worked.

The timing landed badly. Under grant agreements employees had signed in mid-June 2025, a quarter of their PUMP token allocation was due to unlock roughly a year later, around June 2026, about two months after the April layoffs took effect. At least one former employee’s now-forfeited allocation would be worth seven figures at current PUMP prices.

Three Months Later, Insiders Unlocked $86–92 Million

Separately, and on a different timeline, Pump.fun’s own team and investors received a large token unlock of their own. On-chain analysis, corroborated across several outlets, shows 57.279 billion PUMP, valued at roughly $86–92 million depending on which price snapshot is used, moving into 121 wallets belonging to team members and early investors in mid-July.

The Overdue Baton Corporation Filing That Could Settle Headcount

One document could still expand what’s known here: Baton Corporation’s UK accounts for the period ending 30 September 2025, filed with Companies House. They were due 30 June 2026 and remain outstanding, per the filing record reviewed directly. Those accounts disclose employee headcount. The last filed set, covering the year to March 2024, listed three employees, against the near-100 the company says it employed earlier this year. Until that filing lands, the exact scale of who was let go, and when, isn’t fully on the public record.

Crypto Industry Restructuring Extends Beyond Pump.fun

Pump.fun’s layoffs are part of a broader trend of workforce reductions across the crypto industry as companies prioritize AI, infrastructure, and institutional growth.

Major firms including Coinbase, Gemini, BitGo, Dune, and Crypto.com have cut between 12% and 30% of their workforces while redirecting investment toward AI and strategic growth initiatives.
