  • Strategy purchased 1,665 bitcoin for an aggregate $142.7 million, an average price of $85,681 per coin, between September 21 and September 27, 2026
  • The purchase was funded using net proceeds from sales of MSTR common stock, lifting total holdings to 847,666 BTC as of September 27
  • The company’s aggregate cost basis across its entire bitcoin position now stands at $63.95 billion, or roughly $75,437 per coin on average

Strategy disclosed in an 8-K filed with the SEC on September 28, 2026 that it purchased 1,665 bitcoin during the week of September 21 through September 27, spending an aggregate $142.7 million at an average price of $85,681 per coin. The company said the purchase was funded using net proceeds from sales of its MSTR common stock, continuing the equity-financed accumulation strategy that has driven its treasury for several years.

The latest purchase brings Strategy’s total bitcoin holdings to 847,666 BTC as of September 27, 2026, making it by far the largest corporate holder of bitcoin tracked publicly. The filing puts the aggregate purchase price of the company’s entire position at approximately $63.95 billion, working out to an average cost basis of about $75,437 per bitcoin across every coin the company has ever bought.

The gap between that $75,437 average cost basis and the $85,681 average price paid for this specific week’s purchase reflects how much bitcoin’s price has appreciated since Strategy began building its position, with earlier purchases made at substantially lower prices continuing to anchor the blended average down even as the company keeps buying at whatever the market price happens to be each week.

Strategy has followed a consistent weekly cadence of these disclosures for years, using a mix of at-the-market common stock sales and other capital markets activity to fund near-continuous bitcoin purchases regardless of short-term price swings. The filing does not indicate any change to that approach, with the company continuing to treat bitcoin accumulation as its primary corporate objective.

Because Strategy’s holdings are disclosed through routine SEC filings rather than a single standing announcement, the market treats each weekly 8-K as a direct, verifiable data point on both the pace of purchases and the total size of the position, distinguishing the company’s disclosures from looser, less frequently updated treasury claims made by some other public companies pursuing similar strategies.

Formerly known as MicroStrategy before rebranding around its bitcoin treasury identity, the company has effectively become a bellwether for corporate bitcoin adoption, with its weekly purchase disclosures closely watched by investors, other treasury companies, and analysts trying to gauge institutional demand alongside the exchange-traded fund flow data that tracks a separate slice of the same broader market.
