ARK Invest founder and CEO Cathie Wood has asserted that escalating global economic and political instability is set to fuel the next wave of growth for Bitcoin and the broader digital asset market. According to Wood, capital fleeing from countries facing economic uncertainty and political turmoil is likely to boost demand for Bitcoin, which she views as a reliable tool for protecting wealth across borders. She emphasized that while artificial intelligence continues to attract massive investor interest and capital, it cannot fulfill the same protective role that digital assets play during periods of financial and geopolitical stress.

Capital outflows from less stable countries around the world will light another fire under bitcoin and other digital assets. AI has launched a technology revolution, deservedly sucking a lot of oxygen out of the investment world, but it cannot serve as the insurance policy… https://t.co/Xmtt1DnroX

Wood made the remarks in response to an internal ARK Invest discussion on capital rotation trends. She argued that Bitcoin serves as a form of insurance policy for individuals and institutions seeking to safeguard their purchasing power when confidence in traditional financial systems weakens. The comments also align with ARK Invest’s broader strategy of expanding its exposure to emerging financial technologies. Earlier this month, the firm partnered with prediction market platform Kalshi to incorporate event-based forecasting data into its investment research process, highlighting its growing interest in alternative market signals and digital-native financial infrastructure.

The comments arrive as Bitcoin and cryptocurrency markets have experienced notable pressure in recent weeks. U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen substantial outflows, with more than $4.2 billion withdrawn over a three-week period spanning late May to early June 2026. As of June 26, the daily net outflow stood at $444.51 million, contributing to continued pressure on the market.Despite the short-term selling, Cathie Wood remains confident in Bitcoin’s long-term fundamentals.

Her views are particularly relevant amid ongoing global challenges, including geopolitical tensions, persistent inflation in several regions, and currency depreciation in emerging markets. In such environments, Bitcoin’s decentralized structure, fixed supply of 21 million coins, and ability to facilitate borderless transfers make it an appealing alternative to traditional assets. Wood’s statement reinforces ARK Invest’s strong conviction in the crypto sector. On June 26, the firm announced purchases totaling approximately 25.54 million dollars in shares of key players including Coinbase, Circle, Bullish, and Robinhood. This move underscores the investment manager’s belief in the long-term potential of digital assets despite current market headwinds.

ARK Invest has also continued backing companies building around the digital asset ecosystem. The firm recently participated in a $125 million institutional funding round for Eightco Holdings alongside BitMine and Payward, a move that further demonstrates its commitment to crypto-related businesses even during periods of market uncertainty.

Wood has previously outlined ambitious price forecasts for Bitcoin, projecting a base case of roughly 730,000 to 750,000 dollars and a bullish scenario exceeding 1.25 million dollars by 2030, citing growing institutional adoption and its role as a non-sovereign store of value. As the cryptocurrency industry matures, Wood’s perspective highlights Bitcoin’s evolving role. It is not just a high-risk growth asset, but also a strategic hedge against systemic risks. While the AI boom has dominated recent investment narratives, Wood believes Bitcoin addresses a distinct need that technology stocks and AI companies cannot replace. This narrative resonates strongly with investors in regions facing capital controls, currency instability, or political uncertainty, where Bitcoin has increasingly been used for capital preservation and remittances.
