Kevin McGurn resigned as CEO of Yorkville Acquisition Corp. on April 22, 2026, one day after Trump Media named him its own Interim CEO. Yorkville was the blank-check company on the other side of Trump Media’s now-abandoned CRO treasury deal, a plan to stockpile Crypto.com’s CRO token. Three and a half months later, on August 7, McGurn, this time representing Trump Media, helped call off that same deal. Earlier this year, Crypto.com cut 12% of its workforce as it accelerated AI adoption.

Why the one-day gap is worth noting

The joint statement from Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville describes the termination as a mutual decision between separate parties, citing “prevailing market conditions” and “shifting business and stakeholder priorities. As recently as December 1, 2025, McGurn was on the record as Yorkville’s CEO, calling the venture

“poised to unlock significant value for shareholders.”

Eight months later, wearing Trump Media’s hat, he was one of the people agreeing to shut it down. For most of the deal’s life, one person effectively sat on both sides of the negotiating table. Neither company’s filings say whether the overlap was flagged internally at the time.

What TMTG, Crypto.com, and Yorkville actually scrapped

Announced in August 2025, it would have combined Trump Media, Crypto.com, and Yorkville into “Trump Media Group CRO Strategy,” with up to $6.42 billion in funding capacity. The companies called it the first and largest publicly traded treasury company for CRO, the native token of Crypto.com’s Cronos blockchain.

Alongside it, Crypto.com agreed to stop servicing Yorkville America’s planned ETF lineup. Those ETFs, branded as Truth Social Funds, continue regardless. Trump Media’s separate September 2025 purchase, widely reported at roughly 684.4 million CRO worth about $105 million, is also unaffected by Friday’s announcement.

What’s still moving between the two companies

Trump Media reported holding 9,542 BTC as of the end of Q2 2026, per its own filings. Separately, on-chain tracking reported this week put cumulative outflows at 7,281 of the 11,542 bitcoin the company originally acquired, worth roughly $1.37 billion at purchase. An estimated $850 million of that, at cost, has moved out, including to addresses linked to Crypto.com, one of the company’s named custodians. The two figures don’t match, and neither company’s disclosures explain why.

Figure Value Source basis
BTC held, end of Q2 2026 9,542 BTC Company filings

Trump Media recently transferred another 2,628 BTC to Crypto.com, extending a series of large bitcoin treasury movements.
