According to a recent statement, the new contracts will provide exposure to themes including artificial intelligence, aerospace and defense, China-listed American depositary receipts (ADRs), and a broader basket of innovative companies listed on the Nasdaq exchange. The contracts are based on existing indexes developed by MarketVector. The launch brings equity index exposure into a crypto-native derivatives framework that is commonly used by digital asset traders.

MarketVector Indexes Underpin New Contracts

The new futures contracts will track MarketVector indexes designed around specific market themes. The artificial intelligence, aerospace and defense, and China ADR indexes each follow the 10 largest companies within their respective sectors.

The broader technology-focused product tracks a basket of 100 Nasdaq-listed companies, providing wider exposure across the innovation segment of the market. The structure allows traders to access thematic equity exposure through the same derivatives interface used for cryptocurrency perpetual contracts.

Exposure Across Multiple Market Themes

The upcoming products are designed to provide market exposure linked to several widely followed sectors and company groups. Examples referenced in the announcement include exposure to companies such as Nvidia, Microsoft, and Alibaba through the futures framework, alongside the broader thematic indexes tracked by the new contracts. The four perpetual-style equity index futures are scheduled to become available through Coinbase Derivatives on June 8.

Recent Coinbase Developments

In recent developments, Coinbase announced plans to reduce its workforce by 14% as it adapts to ongoing crypto market volatility and increasing integration of artificial intelligence across its operations. The company said the restructuring is intended to improve efficiency and support long-term competitiveness. Separately, Coinbase received conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a national trust company, a move that would expand its crypto custody services and strengthen its digital asset market infrastructure under federal oversight.
