Coinbase has expanded its financial services by launching stock trading for all users in the United States, allowing customers to trade equities and exchange-traded funds (ETFs), alongside the launch, Coinbase announced a strategic partnership with Yahoo Finance designed to streamline asset discovery and enable users to move seamlessly from research to trade execution.
Unified Trading Across Crypto and Stocks
According to the company, the new feature enables users to buy, sell, and manage stocks and ETFs alongside cryptocurrencies in the same platform, with zero-commission trading available across both asset classes. Trading is available 24 hours a day, five days a week (24/5), enabling users to react to market-moving news beyond traditional stock market hours.
The platform also supports fractional share investing, allowing users to start trading stocks with as little as one dollar to broaden access regardless of account size. Coinbase stated that trades can be funded instantly using both U.S. dollars and the USDC stablecoin, allowing users to access markets without traditional settlement delays. Members of Coinbase One will also receive rewards based on their USDC trading balances.
The initial rollout includes access to approximately 6,000 securities, with the company planning to expand coverage to more than 8,000 stocks and ETFs in the coming weeks. The company said the service is initially focused on leading equities and will expand 24-hour weekday trading to thousands of additional stocks over time.
Extended Trading Hours and Future Plans
The company emphasized that the traditional financial system operates within limited hours, while digital asset markets run continuously. As part of its broader strategy, Coinbase introduced extended trading hours to support an always-on market environment and provide greater flexibility for investors.
In addition, the firm said it plans to expand its product lineup in the near future. This includes plans to introduce stock perpetual products through its Bermuda-based entity, subject to regulatory approval, offering non-U.S. traders continuous exposure to U.S. equities.
Coinbase also indicated that it is developing tokenized stocks, which could enable continuous global trading, allow users to leverage equities as on-chain collateral, and support instant payments backed by stock value.
Partnership With Yahoo Finance
Under the partnership, individuals researching stocks or digital assets on Yahoo Finance will be able to initiate trades on Coinbase with a single click. Yahoo Finance will also integrate real-time information from Coinbase to support asset monitoring and discovery.
Yahoo Finance, which reaches more than 150 million global monthly visitors, will offer tracking tools and access to Coinbase services through its interface. As part of the collaboration, users of the platform will also receive a one-month trial of Coinbase One Basic.
The companies said the integration aims to streamline the user journey and support portfolio tracking across asset classes in one place.
Technology and Infrastructure
To support the new offering, Coinbase has partnered with Apex Fintech Solutions, which will provide clearing, custody, and execution infrastructure for stock trading. This partnership is intended to deliver a unified experience within the Coinbase platform.
The infrastructure enables customers to manage different asset types in a single account while maintaining regulatory and operational requirements related to traditional securities.
Broader Strategy
The stock trading rollout aligns with Coinbase’s broader strategy to build a comprehensive financial platform that combines multiple asset classes. The company has described its long-term vision as creating an integrated marketplace where users can access crypto, equities, and other financial products from a single account.
This expansion represents a step toward that goal, as Coinbase continues to develop services designed to connect traditional financial markets and digital asset ecosystems.
The company stated that the introduction of stock trading, together with the Yahoo Finance partnership, forms part of a broader effort to create an always-on market environment. Coinbase said the initiative aims to simplify investing by removing the need for multiple platforms and enabling a unified portfolio view.
